sauna & plunge safety

Sauna Safety

  • You must bring with you appropriate swimwear (without metal fastenings), 2x towels (1 for sitting on whilst in the sauna, 1 for drying afterwards/cold dip) and a water bottle for hydration.

  • For the safety of your personal belongings please keep them to a minimum when coming to the sauna, ensure they are not obstructing doorways/entrance & exits.

  • Please remove all jewellery to avoid metals heating up and burning you. There will be box provided in the sauna changing area, but we cannot take any liability for losses.

  • Please make sure you stay well hydrated before, during and after your sauna visit.

  • Please be careful when walking in and out of Reyt Sauna, be aware of hazards such as water on the floor or uneven ground. Take extra care when using the steps and use any handrails provided.

  • If you are new to sauna bathing, we would advise that you start off with short sessions of sauna bathing (5-7 minutes) and slowly build up to a longer session. Keep an eye on the thermometer. In between sauna bathing intervals, make sure you stay hydrated, you can relax on our deck chairs, go for a little stroll, pour water over yourself or even pop into the cold plunge for a quick dip before coming back for another sauna session (that’s our favourite combination).

  • The operation of the wood burning stove is STRICTLY for staff members of Reyt Sauna. If you would like to change the temperature or add wood to the stove please ask our staff and they will be happy to help. Typically our sauna temperatures will range from 55-90℃. Please do not touch the stove, stones or chimney at ALL times.  If temperatures reach 100℃ please inform staff.

  • You are welcome to pour water over the stones using the ladle & water provided, just check with your fellow bathers first as it will increase the heat! Use caution when pouring water on the stones.

  • Please do not touch the vents! Kindly talk to our friendly staff members, who will be happy to help.

  • No items except your towel to sit on and a non-metal water bottle are to be taken into the sauna room, and all items must stay away from the stove.

  • The sauna space is an opportunity to relax, refresh & reset. Please respect other sauna bathers whilst using. Any disorderly behaviour is not permitted and the sauna operator reserves the right to remove disorderly users at any time.

  • Should there be a fire please leave the sauna immediately via the sauna door followed by the external door, the emergency exits. In any emergency our member of staff will advise you on what to do and where to meet. In case of an emergency exit the sauna trailer & notify the operator immediately for further instructions.

  • Feel free to ask our team any questions before, during, or after the session and please ensure any issues are brought to the attention of our team immediately.

Plunge pools safety

The plunge pools are intended for cold water immersion therapy to contrast and complement the heat of the sauna. Use of plunge pools has potential health risks, including but not limited to, hypothermia, shock, or injury. The plunge pools will vary in temperature and will be roughly the same temperature as the air, that being particularly cold in winter. A thermometer will be displayed showing the temperature.  We aim to keep the cold plunge between 4-14℃ in the warmer months.

When using the body of water as a ‘cold plunge’ you should:

  • Shower before using the plunge pools. This prepares you for the cold water immersion and keeps them clean for other users.

  • Limit your time and listen to your body in the plunge pool.  It is not a competition.

  • If you feel dizzy, are extremely uncomfortable, start excessively shivering, or otherwise feel unwell during your cold plunge, get out slowly but immediately.

  • Take care as you enter and exit the plunge pools using the non-slip matting to avoid injury.

  • Feel free to wear a woolly hat in the winter months!
